A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing
There are legendary cannabis strains, and then there are strains that are no less than revolutionary. Blueberry is a prime example of the latter, which since the 1970’s has enjoyed God-like status among anyone who knows what quality weed is all about.
First unleashed in Holland almost five decades ago, it didn’t take long for Blueberry to conquer both the High Times Cannabis Cup and the commercial cannabis scene in general. Since then, this herb has lent her genetics to an endless list of spectacular new-generation hybrids.
Chances are, a decent proportion of the strains up for grabs at your local dispensary wouldn’t exist without Blueberry. Though of course, there’s no improving on the original - an Indica-heavy strain with a completely unique fragrance and flavor profile.
One hit of these buds and you’re unlikely to look at berry-flavored weed the same way again. Comprising approximately 80% Indica and 20% Sativa genetics, Blueberry Auto is just the thing when a bout of heavy physical relaxation is called for.
Often testing for a THC content in the region of 20%, this stuff can also be a surprisingly heavy-hitter. Your classic wolf in sheep’s clothing - a sweet and alluring strain that won’t hesitate to knock you off your feet.
As an added bonus, this herb is also a comprehensively easy specimen to grow - short, bushy and heavy-yielding plants that demand almost no TLC whatsoever. Particularly with this autoflowering variant, which more or less grows herself. In fact, the biggest challenge when growing Blueberry Auto is resisting the temptation to harvest early, just as soon as those fabulous berry fragrances start doing their thing.
Flavor and Fragrance of Blueberry Autoflower
There are plenty of fragrant and fruity strains out there, but not a single one of them can hold a candle to the original Blueberry.
The most prolific terpenes in this strain are myrcene, pinene and caryophyllene, which come together to create the most blissful blueberry fragrance. Tart, inviting and punctuated with plenty of skunky goodness, making for a truly irresistible experience.
Unsurprisingly, all of the above translates to a mouth-watering flavor you just cannot get enough of. The taste is (of course) dominated by sweet and sour blueberries, though with plenty of musky earth and a hint of fuel. On the exhale, an aftertaste of pure sugary-sweetness is left on the palate, making it almost impossible not to reach for more. In fact, this is where the danger of Blueberry lies - she draws you in, tickles your taste buds and then tears your head clean off your shoulders!
The fame and infamy Blueberry has earned over the years goes way beyond her remarkable fragrance and flavor. A typical batch will test for about 20% THC, though the range actually goes from 16% up to 23%. Hence, it’s worth taking those first few hits slowly, if you’re not entirely sure what you’re getting yourself into.
No messing about with this one - Blueberry Autoflower immediately gets to work with a relaxing and sedating high that hits the entire body. There’s a gentle cerebral buzz for added enjoyment, but it’s a near-exclusive physical stone.
In fact, the arms and legs are hit so quickly and intensely that you need to make a beeline for the first couch or armchair within reach. Hit Blueberry hard and she will literally knock you off your feet - not a strain to mess with in the wrong settings!
Interestingly, this narcotic-level physical stone isn’t accompanied by the usual sense of hopeless sleepiness. You’ll still be conscious enough to enjoy your surroundings, along with the inevitable munchies that hit after an hour or two. Though as you’ll be unable to move, you’ll be reliant on takeout - or whatever you’ve got nearby at the time.
Blueberry can be good for relaxed and lazy social situations, but is best reserved for those times when you simply want to indulge alone.
Coherent conversation isn’t something you’ll be capable of or interested in, so avoid this stuff like the plague if you need to function like a normal human being. Though when it comes to a relaxing evening following a lousy day at work, there’s almost nothing better out there.
Medical Uses of Blueberry Autoflower
With 80% Indica genetics, the medical applications of Blueberry Autoflower are almost exclusively physical in nature. This herb’s mild Sativa uplift can be good for a gentle mood-boost, but that’s not why therapeutic tokers rave about these buds.
Instead, this is the kind of strain you turn to when you’re looking to numb every last inch of your body from head to toe. Or perhaps, lull yourself slowly but surely into the best night’s sleep you’ve ever had.
Blueberry quickly and effectively gets to work on all types of muscle aches and pains, flooding the body with a feeling of calm, serenity and total relaxation. Chronic pain sufferers in particular have reported fast-acting and long-lasting relief with the measured intake of this stuff.
This is also a strain that has strong connections with the munchies, therefore can be great for dealing with bouts of nausea or poor appetite. That said, Blueberry Auto is one to avoid like the plague if you’re watching your waistline. The hunger pangs this herb brings on make it almost impossible to make sensible decisions, with regard to what you’ll be shoving down your throat for the duration!
An important word of warning - Blueberry is not a recommended strain for newcomers, or anyone with a history of panic attacks or paranoia. The intensity and duration of the physical stone can be difficult to handle and potentially overwhelming. Unless you know exactly what you’re doing, proceed with extreme caution when experimenting with this pot.
Growing Blueberry Autoflower Seeds
Though the exact origins of Blueberry are unknown, it’s believed that at least one of the parent strains can be traced back to the Afghani Mountains. As such, she’s a surprisingly durable and resilient strain, which can be grown successfully outdoors in cooler northern climates. Blueberry Autoflower automatically switches to the flowering stage at the right time, meaning these plants more or less take care of themselves.
Autoflower variants speed up the cultivation process at the expense of slightly more compact yields, but a little of this stuff goes a very long way. Blueberry Autoflower plants rarely reach more than around 100cm in height, making them great for compact and confined spaces indoors and out.
Be sure to give the foliage an occasional prune where necessary, in order to ensure good air circulation.
Other than this, it’s a practically fool-proof cultivation process that almost guarantees outstanding results. That is, if you’ve the willpower to resist diving into your stash too early - Blueberry is simply irresistible when she begins putting out those sugary-sweet berry fragrances.
In short, Blueberry is the kind of old-school strain that shows all 21st century hybrids how things can and should be done. Five decades since her debut, there’s still nothing that comes close. In terms of fragrance, flavor and full-on Indica effects, this herb remains well and truly in a league of her own.
If you’re looking to produce as much weed as possible in the shortest time and with limited space to play with, Blueberry Autoflower is the option to go for. Even with no knowledge or experience whatsoever, you’ll be looking at a decent haul of super-strong weed in no time.
Just be sure to proceed with caution with those first few hits - this stuff never fails to kick like a raging mule!
